The webinar that I attend is about being a fair
tester by Maha Hassan.
In this webinar I see several types of questions. In comprehension the questions should be from top to bottom, which means that we should start with general questions and then detailed questions.
We should keep in mind why we are testing the students and part of using comprehension test is that we test their understanding.
We should start the exam with general questions about the main idea because we have to be sure that the students understand everything and then the detailed questions.
Then we ask them indirect questions to let them guess.
So in comprehension questions first we should ask general questions then detailed questions then indirect one. Also we can apply bloom's taxonomy in our questions.
We should keep three questions in mind:

We should keep three questions in mind:
- Why
are you giving an exam to your students?
- What
do you want to assess?
- How do
you decide what to test and how to test it?
Important point to keep in mind:
- Don't overdo
standards because sometimes it complicates the exam and waste time for
students.
- Check
timing to know if the students have enough time to finish all the
questions.
- Make
the question layout easy to follow because sometimes the questions that we
put for comprehension part the students don't understand it.
- Reduce
emphasis on memory.
- Don't
measure the same things again and again.
- Keep
sentences short.
- Are
you covering learning outcomes?
- Ask
colleagues to revise your test before giving it to your students.
How should the students know about the marking criteria?
By using rubric. We have several kinds of rubric that we can
do. For large classes you can make a table of signs to help the students
understand your notes without taking too much time.
When correcting the exam:
- Penalize
the same mistake once.
- Review
the test after the exam.
- Make
notes on the exam results.
How to turn exam questions into assessment exercises?
- Knowledge
or how it is used.
Interesting sum up points: 1- An assessment is a process.
2- A test is a product.
3- A diagnosis is a
conclusion.
- Process
or product.
- The
communication of ideas.
- Convergent
or divergent thinking.
- Absolute
or relative standards.
How can you support student’s failure?
- Help
students to come to a position where they can see failure as an
opportunity for learning.
- Take
account of the feelings of students.
- Help
students to understand that it is their work and not their personality
that is the problem.
- Concentrate
on what students can do in future it improve, rather than railing over
their failings.
- Let
students have further opportunities for practicing under simulated exam
conditions.
- Let
students play examiner.
- Help
students to identify what went well.
- Help
students develop revision and exam techniques.
- Encourage
students in pairs to set each other questions and mark them.
How can technology help?
- Quiz
Alize
- Quiz
let
- Secretive
- Kahoot
The most important are Quiz Alize and Quiz let.
In Quiz Alize you have the choice to make quiz or test and
then you save. After saving it will become ready to the students. Also you can
do this quiz or exam in home or in class.
In Quiz let you can put multiple choice questions, true or
false, complete the sentence and so on (6 to 7 types of questions).
It is a very nice topic, technology are important, but we must use them correctly and get the right things from them.
ReplyDeletewe have many ways to assess students but not all of the are effective, we should know how and why we are using this assessment.
